After a couple of days relaxing

I’ve been working on a number of big projects for a client - working in-house planning and architecting the projects, writing code, and managing their Actionscript developers - which has meant I haven’t had much time over the last few months to work on the Flint particle system or any other of my own projects, to do research, or even to post very much on this blog…

Flint Particle System version 1.0.3 released

I released version 1.0.3 of the Flint Particle System today. This is a minor change to add some additional features including some keyboard control of the particle systems, applying palette maps to renderers and actions that only affect particles in certain areas of the screen. More info on the Flint Website.

Flint Particle System Website

Flint is leaving home. This morning we packed its bags and shipped it off to a new site at flintparticles.org. While it settles in I’ll continue to blog about it here as well as on the new site, but once the aggregators have picked up the new site’s blog I’ll move all the news and information about Flint over there. Of course, I’ll still blog about other stuff here.

Dance on the web

Many years ago I did a lot of work involving interactive dance. Some of the experiments I created used to exist in other locations that have now disappeared. I’m placing them here so they can still be found.

Windows Vista just hosed my work

Up 'till now I've been vary happy with Windows Vista. I think it's a lot better than XP. When I got my latest laptop I considered returning to the Apple fold but couldn't get the same power to weight ratio in a Mac laptop so I stuck with a PC. Then, today, Vista deleted three days of work. Fortunately I was able to recover it but it wasn't a pretty experience...

Actionscript 3 Training in the UK

Ubiq have launched my new Actionscript 3 training courses. The first beginners course is in December, with more beginners and advanced courses next year. We’re not sure what the demand will be so if you want a course and there’s none available, just ask and we’ll try to fit in an additional course. We also have a conversion course for experienced Actionscript 2 developers which we’ll schedule according to demand.

There’s training, and then there’s training

After the LFPUG meeting where I did my Physics for Flash Games presentation I was chatting to a few people and realised they have a lot of assumptions about training courses, most particularly about the environment and style of training. I’ve taught at a few different training companies and like to categorise training courses into three distinct styles. Which is right for you?

Free sudoku puzzles for your website

Last week, over at Strictly Sudoku, we launched a new game for use on other people’s sites. This flash game features a new sudoku puzzle every day and may be placed on any website free of charge. The game features many of the cool features from Strictly Sudoku’s own puzzles. Anyone wishing to host the game may link directly to the swf on the Strictly Sudoku site or may download the swf and place it on their own web server. There’s more info on the Strictly Sudoku website
